Our country is in a lot of trouble and the government deserves much of the blame for the state we are in. A large number of people became aware of this and shifted the power in the House of Representatives in the 2010 election. As unemployment stays high, spending remains out of control, and the government takes more power over individuals and private enterprises, more and more people are waking up every day.
Many are quick to blame President Obama for our government’s problems. He certainly is to blame for much of our current distress. But this problem precedes Obama. It goes back farther than George W. Bush. In fact, the cancer known as the progressive movement has been spreading through government and eating away at our freedoms for a hundred years.

Sunday evening I posted an update to my Facebook and Twitter accounts: “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3). This was one of the verses I used in the sermon I preached that evening. It was posted to my Facebook account at 5:16pm — right when I was standing before the congregation and beginning the lesson.

New York Yankees’ shortstop Derek Jeter hit a home run for his 3,000th career hit this weekend. Baseball fans know this is quite a feat as only 27 major league players have reached the milestone before Jeter. I was a bit surprised though to hear that he was the first Yankee to reach this mark. I want to be happy for Jeter and celebrate as a fan of the game, but I have a hard time doing it. It’s nothing against Derek Jeter, it’s the rotten system.

Monday is the 4th of July. Independence Day. Undoubtedly, many are eagerly awaiting the start of a three day weekend (whatever that is). And while a day to spend with family and friends is nice, the 4th is more than a day of independence from a job. It is about celebrating the blessings of being a free and independent people.

More and more people are embracing e-books and e-readers like Amazon’s Kindle. When the first Kindle came out, I thought it was a neat idea, but wasn’t sure if it would take off. When the second version was released, I started thinking it might be neat to have one. Since the latest version came out, I’ve started thinking seriously about getting one. But honestly, I’m still on the fence. So I’m looking for feedback.

The majority of sports fans across the country rejoiced Sunday night over the outcome of the NBA Finals. Part of that was due to the fact that the champs — the Dallas Mavericks — were the feel-good story that people like to root for. But a lot of it was because the Miami Heat — most especially LeBron James — lost.

The last time my wife went to the dentist, she was told that she had four cavities. We didn’t have the cavities filled because we didn’t have dental insurance and couldn’t really afford to pay out of pocket at the time. That was probably about three years ago. She went back to the dentist this week. You know what they found? No cavities!
Is this a miracle? Wait, don’t answer that yet. You should probably hear the rest of the story.
